Foods that help fight effects of Pollution

The news of NCR been engulfed in smog is truly saddening and scary. Imagine its effects on not only you but also your precious children. Although as responsible citizens we should contribute to doing our best to save and care for our planet along with that we should also ensure that we keep us and our loved ones safe.

Children, who go to schools every day or most of you who go to work every day, obviously cannot stay at home due to increasing air pollution but we can certainly make sure that we tweak our intake of superfoods and take up some form of exercise to minimize the effects of air pollution. Superfoods increase resistance in the body and keep us safe from air pollution.

According to health tips shared by Apollo hospitals, this smog can cause allergies, sinus infections and breathing problems in children and adults alike.

What are superfoods? – in simple terms, superfoods, as the name suggests, are foods that are brimming with nutrients. Green leafy vegetables, dry fruits, flax or chia seeds are some examples of superfoods.

Foods those are rich in Vitamin E and C are wonderful and your answer to create a line of defense against air pollution

For babies, this can be applied in very small amounts on their clothes so that when they breathe, its goodness can act as a medication. Add this to your steam to reap its maximum benefits

Yoga – apart from including the above in your diet, you should also do yoga early morning to reap its benefits. Exercises likes – sukha pranayama, kapalbhati, bhastrika, bhramari yoga and sheetali yoga are wonderful to maintain and increase your lung health and will help you create a defense against any breathing problems.

We probably may not be able to bring any major changes to our surroundings but making little changes in our lives can definitely help us make a greener planet. For eg –

  • Carpool to work
  • Switch off your vehicle engine when waiting for someone or at the traffic lights
  • Switch off lights and any electronic gadgets when not in use.
  • If you see someone throwing the cigarette butt on the ground – educate and encourage them not to do so. These cigarette butts are non-biodegradable, which means they do not decompose and stay on earth for up to 20-25 years.
  • Encourage Reduce, Reuse and Recycle
  • Bring your own bags when you go shopping
  • Plant more greens. discourage anyone from cutting down trees
  • properly dispose of garbage
  • Turn off taps and do not waste water
  • Service your vehicle regularly to avoid any dangerous emissions
  • Say NO to plastic containers. Use glass or steel instead

  5. Oh the smog looks so bad!!! Have you heard of a diffuser necklace? My son has a leather one that i put essential oils on and they provide respiratory support. Oils that are safe for kids and support the respiratory system are: cedarwood, lavender, pine, spruce, and frankincense. I personally like a young Living blend called Sacred Mountain.
