If your bone density test result reveals that its low, the doctor will recommend further tests to know the rate at which you are losing bone mass.

Women aged 20 and older should get a test for cholesterol to know if they are at risk for heart disease. According to a survey, in India, cardiovascular disease tops the list of diseases that kill women. > Eye exam

Get your eyes checked every year once you are 30 years of age. If you don’t have eyesight difficulties, screening may not be necessary. However, you should see an eye doctor if you have any concerns. In India, nearly 74% of adults of 60 years and older have cataracts or have undergone cataract surgery, according to a population-based study. Women have a significantly greater predominance than men, and nuclear cataract is the most common type.

> Blood Pressure

High blood pressure can lead to heart disease, kidney failure, or stroke. You should get your blood pressure checked in case if you feel lethargic, drowsy or have palpitations.

> Thyroid screening

If you have symptoms like lethargy, unexplained weight gain, or period changes you should get yourself checked for Thyroid. Nearly every third Indian experiences one or the other form of thyroid dysfunction, which often causes weight gain and hormonal imbalances, and is more commonly seen in women.

  2. totally agree!! Being in the health care sector, I have always been active to get all the tests done. Though it is expected that we should get an annual body check up but sadly a lot of people choose not to. This is really a helpful post for all women out there.

  6. Thanks for sharing this information. I am over 30 and need to book some tests foŕ myself. I got smear test done before but definitely need to get other tests done.

  7. I am just 20 and already suffer from hypothyroidism, ovary issues and short sightedness! I agree, every women should get these tests done

  8. I completely agree that after 30 a woman should undergo regular medical screening. With lifestyle changes a few of these illnesses remain unchecked if not for screening and could result into terrible outcomes.

  10. I gave birth to my daughter when I was 26. Now I am 28 but I have started feeling how drastically one biological process changes our workings. I get myself tested often wrt to diabetes, thyroid and bone density.
