What are Probiotics

Probiotics are microorganisms typically already in the digestive tract that support in digestion and reduce swelling in the body. While a person can take probiotic additions, there are also multiple probiotic foods ready and available.

Types of Good bacteria –

Many variants of bacteria are classified as probiotics. They all have distinctive advantages, but most come from two groups. As per your medical issue, you will be required to consume a different variety of bacteria.

Lactobacillus –

This is probably the most popular probiotic. It is this one that you’ll find in yogurt and other fermented foods. Several strains can help with diarrhea and may help people who can’t digest lactose, the sugar in milk.

Bifidobacterium –

This is found in some dairy products. It helps reduce the signs of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and some other conditions. There is a common consent that this bacteria is the main reason for the baby’s’ greater immunity to infection compared to formula-fed infants. In adults, bifidobacteria also continues to play a major part of the intestinal microflora.

Saccharomyces boulardii –

This is a yeast that is obtained and available in probiotics. It seems to help fight against diarrhea and other digestive problems.

Forms of Probiotics that are super healthy –

  • Yogurt
  • Tempeh
  • Kimchi
  • Miso
  • Pickles
  • Buttermilk
  • Some types of cheese

What all can you heal with consuming probiotics every day?

  • Skin rashes or eczema
  • gestational diabetes
  • managing your weight
  • postpartum depression / stress
  • digestive system issues
  • respiratory health benefits
  • boost immunity
  • and much more

How much bacteria should be in probiotics that is beneficial for you?

As a common rule, a probiotic should contribute at least 1 billion CFUs (colony forming units, i.e., viable cells), with doses typically ranging between 1 billion and 10 billion CFUs daily for adults. There are no known side effects of having more probiotic in a day and there is no chance of you over dozing with it.

  2. I started watching my probiotic intake once I found I was pregnant because that’s when I actually started thinking about my health and body! Curd is my go-to probiotic unless I catch a bug or something… I have also noticed that these days paediatricians prefer to put kids on OTC probiotics+zinc before trying antibiotics when they fall sick. I like how it’s good for your health and yet not bad to taste!! 😁 v. Informative blog
